Future Leaders Compete at Private Aegean

Private Ege High School, a school of science and leadership, hosted the Eraslan Foundation Turkey Inter-High School Debate Tournament for the first time this year. The tournament, held on May 13-15, 2017, brought together young people from all over Turkey in a cultural and social environment. A total of 30 teams from 18 schools competed fiercely in the tournament, in which Private Ege High School students participated as “shadow teams” and were not included in the ranking as per the decision of the Tournament Executive Committee.

On the first day of the Eraslan Foundation Turkey Inter-High School Debate Tournament organized in cooperation with the Argument Factory, the participating teams met at the Private Ege High School Yüksel Eraslan Cultural Center. After the matches throughout the day, a dinner was organized for the students in the school garden. The students had the opportunity to relieve the tiredness of the day at the event where the Private Ege High School Orchestra performed. On the second day of the tournament, exciting matches were played and quarterfinalists were determined. The last day of the tournament started with a tour of Izmir for students from out of town. Accompanied by our guidance counselors, the students visited the Historical Clock Tower, Kemeraltı and Kızlarağası Inn, and then attended the Private Ege High School for the semi-final and final matches. After the final match, which attracted great interest, Kabataş Boys' High School students Melekcan Çeşmebaşı and Hakan Çorbacıoğlu won the first place as a result of the jury evaluations. Ece Korkmaz from Private American Robert High School received the “best speaker” trophy. The winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony.

At the award ceremony of the Eraslan Foundation Turkey Inter-High School Debate Tournament, High School Principal Aylin Musluoğlu stated that debate, known as the game of leaders, started at Private Ege High School in 2012 with the training provided by experts and said, “Our students have achieved many degrees in the country's noteworthy tournaments in a very short time. The debate club, advised by Turkish Language and Literature Teachers Yelda Kantarcıoğlu and Simge Akkın, has reached the finals in many tournaments with different teams and won first prizes.  We were proud to host the Eraslan Foundation Turkey Inter-High School Debate Tournament in our school, which has an established culture in the field of debate. In line with the decision taken by the executive committee of the tournament, as the host school, we only participated in the tournament as a 'shadow team'. We would like to express our thanks once again to the Eraslan Foundation and the students and school administrators of the participating schools for organizing this event where the leaders of the future successfully demonstrated the subtleties of debate.”
